Is this just a course for manufacturing students?

No, it does cover manufacturing, but also the Service sector, including people from the Public Sector.

The knowledge you will gain from studying this course is useful across all areas of industry, from those working in the NHS, to banking and insurance, to the National Grid.

Do I have to have a degree to join the MSc?

No, your work-based experience can be just as valuable to us as your academic background.

You will need to have 5 years of qualifying experience. Normally, a short, informal interview will establish whether we can offer you a place on the programme or not.

How will this programme benefit me and my career progression opportunities?

By the end of the programme, participants will have taken part in real-world exercises (not just case studies) in several organisations across a variety of sectors.

Mentoring is an important part of learning about Lean. Detailed mentoring, feedback, and discussion are important incorporated aspects of this course. Networking is also a valuable aspect that results from the class profile.

How will my achievement of this programme benefit my employer?

This programme enables participants to identify and suggest improvements to be made to their organisation’s working practises/processes from the start. By coming out of your organisation and going into others’ you will gain a wider perspective, which will lead to new ideas, possible ways of working and new contacts.

How will I be assessed?

You gain the MSc by passing 4000-word assignments at the end of each of the 8 modules run over the first 13 months and by completing the dissertation which makes up most of the final year. There are no written exams.

How much are the fees and how are they charged?

The course fees are currently £9,180 per year. Payments can be made per term: 4 payments of £2,295.

Are there any extra costs I need to be aware of?

Due to the unique nature of the course, all of the 8 modules are held at different locations throughout the UK and in some cases, within European locations. To help keep the costs down, you will know well in advance in order to plan the most cost-effective method of travel and accommodation. It is proven that using this method of hands on learning-by-doing, can exponentially increase the retention of what is being taught.

There is also a reading list. Books can be purchased through the University Bookshop and may also be accessible via the library service.
